CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Girls Tennis team continued its great season this weekend by qualifying a pair of doubles teams for the State Tournament.

Destiny Winkler and Claire Olson took second place at the EDC Championships, losing in the title match, and Sam Coit and Sara Gilbertson took sixth place. Both teams qualified for the State Doubles Tournament this weekend in Grand Forks.

Also this weekend, Winkler and Olson were both named to the All EDC Team, and Valley City head coach Matt Nielson was named the EDC Coach of the Year.

Valley City will continue its season Thursday in Grand Forks, with the first round of the State Team Duals. Valley City is the No. 3 seed from the EDC and play Minot at 1 p.m. in the first round. Minot is the No. 2 seed from the WDA.
