CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School girls track team qualified two of its members for State Track during the EDC Championship on Saturday in Fargo.

April Berntson qualified by time in the 1600 meter run, and Tonya Van Dyke qualified by place in the shot put.

Berntson took ninth place in the 1600 meter run, but was one of 10 runners who all qualified by time for the State Meet. Berntson rounded the track four times in a total of 5 minutes, 28.23 seconds, a season-best time.

In shot put, Van Dyke recorded a throw of 32 feet, 11 inches. That placed her sixth overall as she earned the last automatic qualifier spot for the State Meet.

Berntson and Van Dyke will represent Valley City during the State Track Meet on Friday and Saturday in Bismarck. Dakota Country Radio will provide hourly updates from the meet on both Friday and Saturday.
