CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Barnes County Emergency Management in cooperation with the local rural fire departments and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise no outdoor open burning at this time.

Barnes County is currently rated as dangerous burning condition.  There is potential for large rapid spreading of fires and erratic behavior for fires that ignite according to Rural Fire Chief Gary Retterath.

Currently there is not a burn ban in place for Barnes County, but if the dry conditions persist, emergency management with the recommendation of Barnes County fire chiefs will request a Declaration at the next commission meeting May 21.

Rural Fire Chiefs in Stutsman County will make the same request on May 21 during their respective County commission meeting if no significant moisture falls between now and then according to Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist.
