(NewsDakota.com) Being at home did the Oakes High School boys and girls track and field teams a lot of good on Monday, as the Tornadoes hosted their first meet of the shortened season. The boys took first place, while the girls finished third.

The boys won the meet with a team total of 96 points, 15 points ahead of second place Sargent County. Individually, Blake Hollingsworth, Austin Brandreit and Eric Burros finished first, second and third in the 4oo meter run. Austin Domine took first in the 800 meter run, Hollingworth along with Ethan Zetocha took first and second in the 200 meter dash, and Dillon Ost was third in both the 100 meter dash and the 3200 meter run. The Tornadoes as a team were first in the 1600 meter relay, and were second in both the 400 and 800 meter relays.   In field events, Keaton Peterson won the Javelin, and Michael Kelly was third in the Discus and Kaleb Sell was third in the Pole Vault.

The girls of Oakes ended the day with 49 points. Ashley Petersen was first in the 400 meter run, and as a team were dominate in the relays, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200 relays. Shelby Roney was first in the Long Jump, and Nicole Warren and Ali Ptacek were champions in the Javelin and Discus.
