CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Steve Hammel is the new director of the Barnes County Valley City public library, he started the new job on May 6.

Hammel made a plea for volunteers shortly after he introduced himself to the city commission on Monday. Hammel was the library director in Denison, Iowa before accepting the position in Valley City.

Hammel said Monday he was looking forward to the challenge and that his family would move to Valley City after the school year. Hammel was hired after long-time library director Mary E. Fischer passed late last year.
