N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Legislature ended its longest session ever early Saturday morning after weary lawmakers approved final bills to a record-high state budget.

The 2013 session adjourned at about 4:35 a.m. Saturday, after lawmakers endorsed spending plans for the Department of Public Instruction and the Office of Management and Budget, which serves as Legislature’s last-minute catchall bill. The Legislature met for 80 days, the maximum set by the state constitution.

Lawmakers from both sides exchanged high-fives, handshakes and hugs after a marathon day that came to an end after approval of the two spending measures that completed work on the Legislature’s $14 billion, two-year budget. It includes $6.9 billion in state general fund spending.
