CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State softball team completed a series sweep of Mayville State on Friday, taking both games of a doubleheader 8-0 and 10-2.

VCSU also swept Mayville in a doubleheader on Thursday and improve to 7-21 with the four wins over Mayville. All four games were played in Valley City on the football turf of Shelly Ellig Field.

On Friday, Samantha Nalley was lights out in the circle, throwing 10 innings and allowing just two runs and seven hits total. Tori Fenton also tossed one scoreless inning. Both games Friday ended early by run rules.

In game one, VCSU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up the 10-2 win. Liz Hall-Sewell and Katarina Boychuk both went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the offense.

The Vikings needed just five innings in game two as they shut out Mayville 8-0. Offensively, Adrianna Boychuk, Brittany Lehner and Hilary Kulczewski each tallied two hits.

The Vikings are back in action Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at rival Jamestown College.
