died of natural causes at his home in Broadus, Montana on Sunday morning, April 14, 2013. He was born the eldest of eight children, to Clifford and Arlone (Wilberts) Day on March 22, 1947 at Oakes, North Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. David attended Oakes High School and then joined the Navy in 1966, serving until he was honorably discharged. He married Karen Hatzenbeller in 1974 at Aberdeen, South Dakota. He married Gaylene Hall in 1991 at Broadus, Montana. Both wives preceded him in death. He was an over the road truck driver until 1989, when a fall from a truck severely disabled him until his death. David was well known for his beautiful leather work and teaching this art to young 4-H children. He loved fishing, hunting and a good game of pinochle.
He is survived by his son Bil and Chastity Pleten, of Aberdeen; three brothers, Clayton (Jane) Day, Wyndmere, ND, Jeffery (Kathleen) Day, West Fargo, ND, and Mike (Lynn) Day, Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Diana (Verne) Skjefte, Oakes, Debbie (Fritz) Maddock, Guelph, ND and Carla (Stephen) Parrish, Des Moines, IA. He is also survived by three step-children, Janice and Joey Hatzenbeller, Aberdeen, and Julie Downs, of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Daryl, and his grandparents, William and Rosa Day and Jacob and Olga Wilberts.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. Interment will be at the Glover Cemetery. An online guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
