CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City approved of using .2 million to purchase an Automatic Metering Infrastructure system known as (AMI) on Monday.
City Administrator David Schelkoph said it will save the city money by using the low watt Radio Frequency pulses to read meters inside Valley City homes.
But Keith Colville who uses city electricity said users should have a choice to opt out if the Smart Meters negatively affect a person’s health.
Valley City resident Bob Drake believes users should be able to opt out of the system if the EMF pulses affect those who may be vulnerable to the Smart Meter use.
Schelkoph said there will be no job losses for Valley City employees once the system is installed.
Mayor Werkhoven voted no. He believes the city needs to address the concern citizens have with the system before moving forward to purchase it from a company.
