CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City State University club tennis took went 1-6 during their first ever appearance at the USTA Tennis on Campus National Championships.
The Vikings won their final match of the championships, defeating Oakland 24-20 for 15th place in the Copper bracket. The 62 teams did pool play on Thursday, and then were split into four different brackets for bracket play on Friday and Saturday during the tournament in Surprise, Ariz.
The Vikings went 0-3 in pool play, and then lost three competitive matches in the Copper bracket before ending the tournament on a high note with the win over Oakland.
The University of Georgia won the National Championship, beating University of Florida 26-24 for the title.
