Sheriff Randy McClaflin talked about the benefits of moving the office out of downtown Valley City where they’ve been since 1996.

The Barnes County Commission approved of a plan to lease a structure with more space owned by the Wagon Wheel Inn Office Building. The $17,200 annual lease is good for two years. On a 3 to 2 vote the county declined to continuing leasing office space from the city at a cost of $15,000 annually. McClaflin said the new lease is cheaper per square foot and the 21-hundred square feet will be put to good use.
