CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School track team wrapped up its indoor season Friday with the EDC Indoor Meet at North Dakota State University.
Head coach Trevor Bakalar says the team set 13 personal records at the meet. The Hi-Liner girls were led by a strong day from Abby Brown who took second place in triple jump with distance of 34 feet, 2 3/4 inches. That moved her into fourth place all time for Hi-Liner girls indoor records. Also in triple jump, Bekah Peterson placed eighth with a distance of 31 feet and 1/4 inch.
April Berntson had a strong day for the Hi-Liners, taking third in the 1600 and sixth in the 800. Her time of 5:39.91 in the 1600 is third best all-time for Hi-Liner girls during the indoor season.
Both the boys and girls 4×200 relay teams took eighth place for Valley City. The boys team consisted of Dereck Durheim, Jack Jenson, John Halgrimson and Colin Naeseth. The girls 4×200 team included Ruth Ihry, Brienne Roehrich, Bekah Peterson and Aleysia Burgard.
The Hi-Liners are set to be back in action on Saturday, April 13 for the Charlie Denton Relays in Bismarck, their first outdoor meet of the season.
The EDC Junior Varsity Indoor Championship were held Saturday at NDSU. Sarah Schauer earned a first place for Valley City, winning the pole vault with a height of 7 feet. Annie Hart also cleared 7 feet to take second place.
The girls 4×800 relay team of Jessica Ronning, Camille Kawasaki, Eden Crump and Barbara Zubrod took third. Zubrod then took fifth in the 800 and Ronning took eighth.
For the boys, Casey Engelhard cleared 5-foot-6 to take second place in high jump. John Halgrimson sprinted to second in the 60 and third in the 200. And in pole vault, Clay LaRocque took third by clearing 8 feet, and Lucas Jury with fifth with a vault of 7-foot-6.
