CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A lease agreement was approved that officially starts the process of moving the Barnes County Sheriff’s office into the former USDA offices on Winter Show road in Valley City.
On a 3 to 2 vote the board approved of the annual lease for $17,200 dollars with Bob Burchill properties.
Commissioner Phil Leitner voted against the move. He said the total cost of moving phone lines and other sensitive technology equipment has not been addressed including the cost of moving the Public Service Answering Point System.
That was Commission President Eldred Knutson disputing Leitner’s cost figure projections.
Commissioner Jon Froehlich a strong opponent of moving the Sheriff’s office out of the city owned law enforcement center also voted against the lease agreement.
Commissioners Knutson, Cindy Schwehr and Rodger Berntson favored the move.
The two year lease with the Burchill property officially went into effect April 2 according to the lease agreement.
