CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A proposal to change the location of the Barnes County Relay for life event was pitched to the Valley City commission yesterday. Mary Dahl, Community Relationship Manager with the American Cancer Society said number of people have expressed an interest in holding the event in downtown Valley City instead of at the W.E Osmon Field house and Lokken Stadium.

Dahl said another proposal is to shorten the hours of the event and wrap it up by midnight. All suggestions are on the table as well as the tentative date for  holding the event June 21.

Valley City Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson likes the idea. Mayor Bob Werkhoven said more downtown businesses need to be surveyed to get their input. Some have suggested staying open later with the heavier traffic of people if the event is held downtown.
