(NewsDakota.com) – Minot Bishop Ryan is the final state champion from the North Dakota winter sports season. Minot Ryan won the Class B Girls Basketball State championship Saturday in Fargo, defeating Central Cass 54-50.
Sophomore Hannah Stewart led Ryan with 27 points and was named tournament MVP. Not to be outdone, Central Cass senior Hannah Breske scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half to keep the Squirrels in the game.
Central Cass led 42-34 early in the fourth quarter following a 20-2 run. The Squirrels were still clinging to a 50-49 lead with just over two minutes remaining, but Ryan scored the final five points of the game to claim the state championship.
Minot Ryan completes a perfect season at 27-0, and graduate just one senior off their team.
Central Cass ends the year 24-4. They have been runner-ups at the state tournament in 2010, 2011 and now 2013.
Also on Saturday, Breske and Taylor Henningsgard of Hillsboro-Central Valley were named Class B Co-Senior Athletes of the Year. And Hannah Larson of Bismarck Century was named the state’s Miss Basketball by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
