N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Troopers have had to handle more than 200 crashes in March alone just in southeastern North Dakota according to Regional Commander Captain Brian Niewind. He said deputies in surrounding counties have had to process dozens of crashes and rollovers as well.

Niewind said this time of year it’s tough to know where the icy road conditions are as you drive down the road. He explains why it’s a good idea to disengage your cruise control when it’s icy.

On March 20, a Wisconsin woman driving a pickup hit an icy stretch of Interstate 94 west of Valley City lost control went into the median and rolled the vehicle. Niewind said she and a male passenger were ejected from the pickup and seriously injured. He said both were not wearing their seat belts.

Niewind reminds motorists to slow down when road condition are icy.
