(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team will have a new head coach for the 2013-14 season.

Assistant Coach Jason Schmitz was promoted to the top spot this week after Caitlyn Wojahn announced her resignation at the end of this past season. Schmitz, a Bismarck St. Mary’s graduate, is in his second year in the Oakes Public School, and completed his first season as the head coach of the girls junior varsity team, and assistant on the varsity squad.

Wojahn, a Milbank South Dakota native, and former starting guard at Valley City State has accepted a teaching position with Aberdeen Central High School. In her two seasons as head coach of Oakes, the Tornadoes had a record of 24-19.

In post-season appearances, the Tornadoes won their opening round games in the District 1 tournament each year, but failed to qualify for the Region I Tournament by losing the next two games.
