CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Allegations that someone entered the Sheriff’s office and searched through the files of a Sheriff’s deputy desk years ago surfaced during a Barnes County Commission meeting in early March.

The joint law enforcement center is owned by the city and one side is leased to the Barnes County Sheriff’s office.

Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson told the city commission Monday that no one in his department has entered the Sheriff’s office without permission under his watch.

According to an article in the March 20 Valley City Times Record, Deputy Brian Hagar said once surveillance cameras were installed near his office, the intrusions stopped.

On Tuesday, the Barnes County board of commissioners voted 3 to 2 to take a step toward moving the Sheriff’s office out of the city owned Law enforcement center in Valley City. The board voted to negotiate a lease agreement with the owner of the former USDA building along Winter Show road in Valley City.
