(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes School Board has announced Joshua Johnson has accepted an offer to be the next Superintendent of Oakes Public Schools.

Johnson, who was one of four finalists, and one of thirteen who applied for the position, comes from Devils Lake, where he is currently principle at Central Middle School. Johnson says the opportunity to be a part of a strong community spirit in a school district like Oakes was greatly appealing.

He has been a principal at Barnes County North, a graduate assistant for the University of North Dakota’s Women’s Basketball team, and a social studies teacher at Grafton Central Middle School. In addition, Johnson is currently pursuing his doctorate in Educational Leadership from UND. Johnson says he’s ready to go from day one on the job.

Johnson’s wife Tristan is an occupational therapist, and the couple has three children; seven year-old Jayden, five year-old Rylyn, and two month-old Piper.

Johnson will finish up the remained of the school year as principle at Central, and is replacing current Oakes Superintendent Art Conklin who announced his retirement earlier this year after being with the district for 30 years. Conklin’s final day on the job is June 30, and Johnson will start July 1.
