CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It will cost the city ,600 dollars to get the lead out of the indoor shooting range in the basement of the law enforcement center in Valley City.

Valley City Commissioner Mary Lee Nielson and Police Chief Fred Thompson said the city is following a state Health Department directive to get the range cleaned up after high amounts of lead were reported.

The Valley City commission approved of hiring a contractor to clean-up the shooting range at a cost of $89,600 at Monday’s meeting.
Thompson said a firm based in North Dakota will start the clean up of debris in the former indoor shooting range on April 8 and the work should be finished by the end of April.
Thompson believes it’s unlikely that the city would spend an estimated $75,000 to $100,000 to upgrade or build a new indoor range in the future.
