N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Napoleon Imperials ended their 2013 Region III Tournament the same way they opened it up — in dominating fashion.

The 21-1 Imperials took care of the Ellendale Cardinals 59-41 in the Region III Finals on Thursday night at Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Gymnasium and, en route, punched a ticket to their first Class B State Tournament since 1983.

In the victory, Region III Senior Athlete of the Year Sheridon Dewald had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Dewald had previously recorded her 2,000th career point in the Imperials’ win back on Monday night. Kendra Weigel had a big game also, posting 16 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals.

In the loss, the Cardinals were led by 10 points from Dacey Fuller.

Napoleon’s head coach Darcy Lehr was named Region III Coach of the Year following the win. His squad moves on to play Region VII winner Beach on Thursday at the Fargodome — a team that Napoleon defeated on Dec. 14 by a 60-55 score.

The third place honor went to Linton/Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock as the Lions bested the Kidder County Pirates 44-35. McKenna Flyberg had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions.
