(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday.
The Oakes Fire Department submitted estimates to the Council of an addition to the Fire Hall. The Council took no action, but did request additional estimates.
The Council learned the roof at the Oakes Armory is still leaking, and damage due to the amount of recent snowfalls has been seen on the support beams of the Armory. A company did look at the roof, but no repairs were made. An insurance claim has been filed as the roof’s warranty has expired. One estimate received to fix the roof would cost $96,000 to fix the entire roof, or $36,000 to repair the south side of the roof, which has seen the most damage. Additional estimates have been accepted.
Security at the Armory has also become an issue, as damage has been done to tables, and kitchen items have been stolen. The Council discussed installing new doors and changing the locks; further discussion will take place in the future.
A bid was approved to paint the street lights along North Dakota Highway 1 for $100 each, and will be painted black.
A meeting will be held between the City and Rosendahl Construction regarding the instillation of the water main. The City sent a letter addressing concerns the size of the main installed during construction was incorrect; Rosendalh replied in disagreement with that view.
