Emma Hill, 98 Jamestown, ND died early Wednesday Morning, March 13, 2013 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.
Emma Rott was born November 1, 1914 on the family farm near Streeter, ND, the daughter of John Rott and Katherine (Kirschenmann) Rott. She received her elementary education in the local rural school in Graff Township and grew to womanhood in the vicinity where she helped on the family farm.
In 1932 at the age of 18 she went to Hebron, ND to work for her Aunt Christine Klundt in a Bakery. In 1936 she moved to Jamestown to work for her uncle Christ Rott in a Bakery in Jamestown. In 1937 she went to California with her friends looking for work. She was employed at the McClellan AFB from 1941 to her retirement in 1972. She and Chester W. Hill were married in 1964. He passed away in 1966. She continued to reside in California. In 1978 she came back to ND and resided in Drake where she took care of her Mother. In 1979 she moved to Jamestown with her Mother. Katherine passed away in 1985. They were very close and loved to sing German hymns and gospel songs together. After the death of her mother, she continued to reside in Jamestown.
At the age of 97, Emma entered the Ave Maria Village in early 2012 and has resided there.
Emma had no children, but took many family members under her wings and she was always helping wherever she could. Emma had a positive attitude and set a great example for all who knew her. She was close to God and prayed for us all.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, 2 brothers, Edwin and Richard Rott; 1 sister, Frieda Teske, and several step and half siblings.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am Friday March 15, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Wendell Kopperud, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation 1-8 Thursday at Haut Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND. Family will call on friends from 6:30-8:00.
