N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Three blowouts were capped off by a thrilling finish in the fourth game during the Quarterfinal Round of the Region III Girls Basketball Tournament at Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Gymnasium on Monday night.

In the opening game, the Napoleon Imperials posted 51 points in the opening half alone on their way to a 76-43 victory over the Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels. The Imperials’ Sheridon Dewald hit a career milestone on her way to a 23-point evening. The senior forward racked up her 2,000th career point in the third quarter of the victory.

In the second quarterfinal matchup, the Kidder County Pirates won a defensive slug-fest in 38-21 fashion over the LaMoure-Litchville-Marion Loboes. The Pirates were led by 14 points from Sadie Rohrich.

The third game pinned the Ellendale Cardinals against the Central Prairie Firebirds, of which the Cardinals came out victorious by a 66-37 margin. Ellendale had four scorers in double digits, including 15 points each from Madilyn Bommersbach and Isabel Wedell.

The nightcap was back and forth from opening whistle until the clock hit all zeros in the fourth quarter, with the Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock Lions besting the Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal Rebels 55-52. Alex Umber’s 15 points and 6 rebounds led the way for the Lions in the victory.

The semifinals Tuesday night can be heard beginning at 5:45 p.m. with Steve Linzmeier broadcasting on TED 98.3/102.7 and streaming online at NewsDakota.com. The first semifinal pins Napoleon against Kidder County. The second is a matchup between Ellendale and Linton-HMB. The two winners will face off for the Region III Championship on Thursday night in Hazelton.
