Evelyn Overby, 91, of Jamestown, ND, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Eventide at Hi-Acres, Jamestown.

     Evelyn (Larson) Overby was born to Ingvald and Agnes (Crosby) Larson in Fargo, North Dakota on November 15, 1921. They moved to Mayville, ND and then back to Moorhead, Minnesota where she attended kindergarten at Moorhead Teacher’s College (MSUM). The following year they moved to Perley, Minnesota where her father managed the Crosby farm and Evelyn attended a country school. When she was in the third grade they moved to Lake Park Minnesota where her father was Superintendent of the Lake Park Children’s Home. She graduated from Lake Park High School with honors and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota majoring in English and History. She taught high school classes in North Dakota at Enderlin, Finley, and Hannaford and also in Hitterdal Minnesota. On June 29, 1946 she married Einar Overby of Cooperstown North Dakota. They had two daughters, Kathy and Sandy. They lived in Tolna and Fargo North Dakota before moving back to Cooperstown where they owned and operated C and D Market, later known as Overby’s Market. In 1969 they moved to Valley City and in 1999 to Jamestown, North Dakota

     Evy was active in the Sons of Norway and in the Cooperstown Trinity Lutheran Church and Valley City Our Saviors Lutheran Church choirs. She was an accomplished pianist who gave piano lessons and was the accompanist for many choirs and soloists. Evy was an active volunteer throughout the years both in the church and in the community. She organized annual Lutheran Syttende Mai dinners. She volunteered until the age of 88 through the RSVP program reading to children at Washington grade school. She pursued hobbies of crafts, painting, quilting, playing pinochle, watching the Twins, and square dancing. Evy reached the 1500 club at the Jamestown Hospital Fitness Center regularly exercising over three times a week until her illness in May of 2011. She was a loyal companion to her husband of 65 years and a beloved mother and grandmother teaching through example to be caring, honest, generous and determined. At the age of 89 Evy moved to Eventide Hi Acres.

     She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy (Don) Paulsen, San Diego, California and Sandy (Ron) Bendewald, Jamestown and four grandchildren, Todd Paulsen, San Francisco, California, Kristin Paulsen, San Diego, California, Carly Bendewald, Dallas, Texas, and Ross Bendewald, Jamestown and one brother Bob Larson, Minneapolis, Minnesota and one sister in-law Lillian Wallander, Froid, Montana.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters.

     Memorials to the James River Transit, JRMC Wellness and Fitness Program, Trinity Lutheran Churches in Jamestown or Cooperstown, and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Valley City.

     Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Rev. Rich Fitzer officiating.

     Visitation: 3:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

     Interment: Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, ND.
