LOOKOUT (Mo.) – The Jamestown College men’s basketball team gave the No. 2 team in the country all it could handle for 20 minutes, but Cardinal Stritch pulled away in the second half for a 74-56 victory in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament.
Mark Hoge scored 21 points and keyed a 11-0 Jamestown run in the first half that gave them a 31-30 lead late in the first half. Hoge hit two 3’s in that run, Breshion Tucker added a steal and a layup and Jared Sutherland capped it off with a 3-pointer.
It was a short-lived lead though as Stritch scored the last five points of the first half and quickly extended it to a 52-37 lead early in the second half. Jamestown scored seven straight to cut it to 52-44, but Stritch had the answer and led comfortably the rest of the game.
Sutherland added 10 points for Jamestown College and Jesse Behm chipped in eight.
Stritch was led by 19 from Derek Semenas and 13 from Tony Smit.
The Jimmies end their season with a 15-19 record under first-year head coach Justin Wieck. They graduate just one senior in Jared Sutherland.
No. 2 Cardinal Stritch improves to 31-3 and moves on to the round of 16 on Friday.
