N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Bismarck Demons girls basketball team trimmed a 14-point halftime deficit down to just three points late in the game, but Jamestown senior Kyra Dewald was just too much as her 37-point performance led the Blue Jays to an 83-77 win Friday to spoil Bismarck’s Senior Night.
Dewald had 14 points in the first half, including 14 of the team’s first 22 points. She went on to shoot 10 for 11 from the free-throw line in the second half and dropped 23 points total in the second 18 minute session.
With the win, the Blue Jays have now swept the regular season series with the Demons and moved into 2nd place in the WDA at 10-3 with Bismarck in 3rd at 11-4 (Blue Jays would own the tiebreaker due to the head-to-head sweep.)
The Blue Jays also got 17 points from McKayla Orr and 16 from Billie Buchanan.
Five Demons scored in double figures for Bismarck in the loss.
As for the boys, they fell to the Demons 80-37, including being outscored 37-14 in the second half.
The boys have now lost 10 in a row since picking up their only two wins of the season after the New Year against Turtle Mountain and Devils Lake.
Freshman Logan Anderson once again led the team in scoring with 10 points.
In the victory, the Demons were led by 16 points each from Josh Seibel and Seth Heilman.
Jamestown will host Williston on Saturday in a double-header at Jerry Meyer Arena, with pregame coverage on TED 98.3/102.7 beginning at 3:15 p.m. and tip-off for the girls at 3:30 p.m.
