FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The chance of major flooding in Fargo jumped from slim last month to significant in the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

Recent heavy snowfall in the southern end of the Red River Valley has upped the chance of major spring flooding in Fargo to 79 percent.

Major flood stage is 30 feet in Fargo, city administrator Pat Zavoral says Fargo will have little problem if the crest stays below 38 feet. He says Fargo has 750,000 sandbags in storage that were not use in 2011.

Meanwhile Mike Lukes with the Grand Forks National Weather Service says the risk for major flooding along the Sheyenne River is low so far.

There is a low risk, less than 30 percent for minor flooding or greater in Valley City, Lisbon, Enderlin and Hillsboro.
