(NewsDakota.com)- It was the regular season home finale for the Jimmie basketball teams at the Civic Center against visiting Dakota State. The women rolled to a 85-49 victory in the first game of the double-header. Unfortunately, the Jamestown College men couldn’t not finish off their late rally and dropped the game 66-60.
The women outscored the Trojans 48-21 in the second-half to pick up their 23rd win of the season. Bridget Schuneman had a game-high 21 including a 11-12 effort from the free throw line to pace the Jimmies.
Schuneman keyed a 25-5 run with six points in a row as the Jimmies put the game away. Jessica Buck entered the game for the first time in the second half and still managed to hit double-digits with 10.
Hannah Steele finished with nine points, eight assists, and five steals. All five of Steele’s steals were in the first-half when Dakota State turned it over 19 times.
Jamestown College improves to 23-5 and will play #15 Mayville State on Sunday in the regular season finale.
With just over seven minutes remaining in the second-half with his team down nine, Head Coach Justin Wieck was given his second technical and shown the door. The Jimmies rallied to pull within two at 62-60. Yusuf Vinson muscled up a baseline drive to put the Trojans up four with under a minute remaining.
Mark Hoge missed a short floater which was rebounded by Davon Thomas who misfired on a three-point attempt. Luke Lamb grabbed the rebound and drilled two free throws with 12 seconds left to seal the game.
Hoge lead the Jimmies with 19 and Thomas chipped in with 11. Lamb had 18 to pace the Trojans, including a pair of threes during a rare 14-2 run that spanned just five possessions in the first half.
Jamestown College falls to 12-17 on the season, but will still have a chance to reach the national tournament next weekend when the AII Tournament comes to Jamestown.
Tip-off Sunday in Mayville is at 4pm for the women with the men to follow. You can catch both games on 1400 KQDJ and NewsDakota.com.
