(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School girls basketball team has been striving all season long to play a complete game. The Tornadoes came close on Thursday in Wyndmere, but may have taken a step back as they lost to the Milnor Bison in Oakes on Tuesday evening 57-48.
Oakes and Milnor traded shots across the bow for the first quarter, but the Bison got the gears going in quarter two to take a 30-18 advantage into the locker room. The Tornadoes were able to pull within two possessions more than a few times in the second half, but Milnor was able to go on runs that re-established the lead to double digits and held on to finish their District 1 regular season.
Minor (8-7 5-2 District 1) had 17 points each from Brooke Tayer and Karli Tompkins. Oakes (9-7 4-2 District 1) had three players in double figures; Nicole Warren had 18, Karlie Knutson 13 and Lydia Hanson with 12.
Next up for Oakes is their final regular season match in District 1 a week from Thursday when they at long last host the North Sargent Bobcats; provided Mother Nature doesn’t get in the way for a third time.
