(NewsDakota.com)- The losing teams combined for just 103 points in the doubleheader at the Civic Center this afternoon when the Jimmies and South Dakota Mines Hardrockers got together. The Jamestown College women kept the ‘Rockers at arms length most of the game as they pulled off a 72-58 win.
On the men’s side the Jimmies were held to just 45 points as SD Mines held on late for a 48-45 win.
The duo of Hilary Hawkins and Katie Strandholm were playing in their final game with the Hardrockers but didn’t go out in the way they were hoping. Hawkins started 0-6 from the field and went the entire first half without a point before finishing with eight.
Strandholm had 21 on 7-17 shooting but fouled out with about five minutes remaining with her team trailing by double-digits.
Bridget Schuneman scored 15 and pulled down 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes of game-time to lead the Jimmies. Jamestown built a 17-point second half lead weren’t ever seriously threatened on their way to the 14-point win.
The Jimmies improves to 22-5. Hannah Steele had 13 and Carly Jensen had 10.
With Jamestown College men trailing 47-41 with about 90 second left, suddenly the Hardrockers could not hold onto the ball. SD Mines turned it over on four straight possessions.
JC could only covert those four turnovers into four points and Davon Thomas missed a 17-footer in the with five seconds left to tie. The Hardrockers converted 1-of-2 from the free throw line and Jared Sutherland couldn’t get a shot off before the final horn.
Jamestown shot 30% from the field with just 16 made field goals. Thomas finished with 16 and Mark Hoge added 15. Those two did not play in the Jimmies 29-point loss to SD Mines back on January 11th.
The Jimmies fell to 12-16. Jamestown has two more regular season games remaining before the AII Tournament February 22-24.
