(NewsDakota.com)- The month of February will be a busy one for the Jamestown High basketball teams as each team play nine times in the month. Last night was the second game for the Jays as they welcomed in Turtle Mountain. Both teams had beaten the Braves back in early January.

The girls had four players in double-figures as they rolled to a 80-58 win. Unfortunately, the winless Braves picked up their first win of the season as they beat the Jamestown boys 66-54.

McKayla Orr took the tip-off right past the Turtle Mountain defense for the first two points of the game as she was fouled to jump start a 13-0 run to open the game. Kyra Dewald picked up right where she left off last week, after 17 second half points against Bismarck, to score seven of her 20 in the opening moments.

The Braves did not go quietly as they responded to tie the game at 17-17. Every time the Jays built a lead the Braves were quick to cut into it.  Jamestown lead 39-24 into the break, but once again Turtle Mountain rallied to pull within four.

Down the stretch everyone for the Jays started to get involved as they put the Braves away. Rebekah Horgan had 10 second half points, while Orr had eight of her 15 in the second half.

Jamestown improves to 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the WDA, currently in the No. 3 spot.

The boys game started the exact same way as the girls did, but ended in a much different result. Brandon Wegner took the opening tap down for a three-point play to give Jamestown an early lead.

The Jays took a five point lead midway through the first half, but once the Braves took control they never relinquished it. They were never able to go on a large run, but they built there lead slowly and steadily.

After scoring just five points in the second half in a loss to Bismarck, Coach Kelley Kessler turned to his freshman Logan Anderson who did not disappoint. Anderson finished with 22 points on 9/15 from the field while playing a season-high 24 minutes.

No other Blue Jay scored more than five as they Jays were unable to get any closer than eight in the second-half. Jamestown falls to 2-10 on the season while the Braves (1-14) got their first win.

Next week the Jays head west to the oil patch to battle Williston on Friday and Dickinson on Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on 1400 KQDJ.
