FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) An alleged gun runner is facing federal charges after he was arrested in a undercover sting in Grand Forks.

According to court documents obtained by KFGO, Shawn Hartnell of Fort Francis, Ontario told undercover Canadian authorities he could provide them with fully automatic assault rifles. The guns would be brought into Canada from the U-S by snowmobile.

Undercover agents bought 4 of the rifles and several handguns for $24,000 during a meeting with Hartnell at a Grand Forks motel on Tuesday. Hartnell faces 3 firearms, conspiracy and interstate commerce-related charges in this case.
