Elizabeth (Betty) Ruth (Schlichenmayer) Anderson, 89, of Jamestown, N.D., graciously stepped into glory, surrounded by family and under the care of Eventide at Hi-Acres staff and JRMC Hospice.
Betty Anderson was born on July 1, 1923, in Turtle Lake, N.D., to John and Elizabeth (Seibel) Schlichenmayer. As a young girl she committed her life to Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She lived as a follower of Jesus the rest of her life. Betty worked as a teacher at a rural school house near Gackle, N.D., where she met Jalmer Anderson. On Sept. 5, 1948, they were married. After working for a year at Northern Gospel Mission in Angora, MN, Jalmer and Betty settled on his family farm where they raised their eight children and farmed the land. Betty was always very active in her church and was presently a member at Temple Baptist in Jamestown.. In 1994 she was chosen North Dakota Mother of the Year. Following the death of her husband, Betty moved to Jamestown. She volunteered at the Frontier Village little school, lead many Bible studies, including one for women at Stutsman County Correction Center. For 17 years she worked with the Senior Companion program and was a companion to 43 different individuals in Jamestown. Betty will always be remembered as an encourager, a good friend and as the penguin lady to children in AWANA.
Elizabeth is survived by seven of her children: Sheila (Rory) Metz of Alfred, ND; Bill (Carol) Clinton, MO; Jean Titlbach Praire DuChein, WI; Josie (John) Quay of Hannahan, SC; Jim of West Fargo, ND; Carleen (Garry) Pennington of Lynnwood, WA; Carlton (Jill) of Blair, NB; brother Ruben Schlichenmayer of Bismarck ND; sister Marion Kirschman of Bottineau, ND; 20 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters, husband Jalmer Anderson and son Jon (Sparky) Anderson.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown, ND.
Visitation/Family will call on friends: Friday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Jamestown N.D.
Interment will be made at Saari Cemetery South of Gackle, ND.
In lieu of flowers, Betty would like memorials given to JRMC Hospice, Life Change Camp or Gideons International.
