Verlie Joy Meldahl was born October 20, 1930 to Alvin and Pauline Meldahl. She was raised on the family farm in Green Township. On March 27, 1949 she married Robert G. Brock. They farmed southwest of Valley City until retiring in 2008.
Joy was involved in numerous activities in her community including Green Homemakers, a member of both First Lutheran and Our Savior’s Lutheran Churches where she sang in the church choirs and also the Ladies Trio. She was a member of Valley Voices and the North Dakota Winter Show women’s division where she was recently honored for her years of service. Joy was also very active in the Knights of Pythias Auxiliary. Nothing gave Joy greater pleasure than taking care of her grandchildren, and cooking for a house full of people.
Joy Brock died Friday, February 1st at the Sheyenne Care Center with her family by her side. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Richard.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Kevin) Weaver, Sun City West, AZ, Susan (Ronald) Kuhn, Shoreview, MN, and Terence of Valley City; grandchildren, Lea Anderson of St. Paul, MN, Riley (Mary) Rogers of Fargo, Breanna (Travis Pierce) Brock and Ryan Brock both of Valley City; and sisters, Dawn Glatt, Bismarck, and Cheryl (Jerry) Braunberger, Springfield, OR.
Joy’s family would like to thank the staff at the Sheyenne Care Center for their care and compassion during her stay there.
Memorials are preferred to the Sheyenne Care Center, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Choir, or as the donor wishes.
The funeral service for Joy Brock, 82, Valley City, ND will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Burial will be along with her husband, Bob, in the ND Veterans Cemetery on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday.
