Elsie Ludwig, age 97, formerly of Rogers and Valley City, ND passed on from this life February 3, 2013 at Maryhill Manor in Enderlin, ND where she had resided for 6 years.

     Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City with Rev. Emmy Isaackson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery later in the spring.

     Elsie Verna Etzell Ludwig was born January 8, 1916 to Emma (Bliss) Etzell and Levi Etzell at Rogers, ND. Elsie belonged to a 4-H Club and graduated from College High in Valley City. On September 16, 1939 she married her handsome beau Harvey Ludwig at Moorhead, MN. They resided in Rogers, ND where they raised their 3 children: Connie Rae, Sharon Lee, and Ricky Harvey.

     As a farmwife, Elsie rose at 4 AM to bake, cook, clean, and do chores. She raised chickens, ducks, sheep, and grew large gardens and flowers, canning and freezing the fruits of her labors. With Harvey they milked Holsteins and fed beef cattle. Elsie loved beautiful clothes and her dream was to be a fashion designer. She sewed and made many different craft and handiwork items to beautify her world and that of her family and friends. Elsie loved to entertain and host parties for family and friends. She was a lifelong member of the East Rogers Homemaker’s Club, and a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Rogers and Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City.

     Elsie now joins her beloved husband, Harvey, sister Marjorie Moore (brother-in-law Robert Moore), and brothers Virgil (sister-in-law Clara) and Donald (sister-in-law Lydia “Lilly”) Etzell, parents Emma and Levi Etzell, and son-in-law Leonard “Butch” Kracht who preceded her in death.

     Elsie is survived by her 3 children: Connie Rae Kracht, Enderlin, ND; Sharon Lee (Ronald “Ron”) Whetzel, Amarillo, TX; Ricky Harvey (Susan) Ludwig, Fargo, ND, 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

     Memorials in Elsie’s memory may be directed to MaryHill Manor or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
