(NewsDakota.com)  All three teams were in action over the weekend for Carrington, here are the results from both boys basketball games, girls hoops against North Star and Region Two Wrestling.

BOYS BASKETBALL:  NO.7 CARRINGTON 58   LAKOTA/ADAMS-EDMORE 42

The Cards won an important district seven game on Friday night in Carrington against the LAE Raiders to lock down a third place seeding for the upcoming district tourney in Devils Lake (Feb. 14, 15 & 18).  Carrington was led by Sr. Scott Burnham with 17 points, five blocked shots and five rebounds to improve the Cards to a 4-2 record in the district, LAE dropped to 3-3 in district seven play, 9-7 overall.  Sr. Austin Johnson added 12 points, four assists and eight rebounds.  

LAE was led by Zach Sundre with 17.

Carrington shot 22/44 for 50% from the field, 3/9 for 33% from 3-point land and 11/20 for 55% from the charity stripe. 

BOYS BASKETBALL:  NO.2 NORTH STAR 60   NO. 7 CARRINGTON 40

The Cards were right back at it on Saturday against region four team and No. 2 North Star, both girls and boys teams were in action at Carrington High School.  The Card boys came up short, as North Star beat them 60-40.  Carrington drops to 14-3 overall, No. 2 North Star wins their tenth game in a row and improves to 15-1 overall (only loss to Beulah).

The Cards were led by Soph. Seth Abaurrea and Sr. Austin Johnson with 11 each.  Abaurrea added three assists.  Sr. Scott Burnham had 10 points and five boards.

Jake Hagler of North Star led all scorers with 16 points.  North Star had only four turnovers in the game, the Cards had 14.

Carrington shot 14/39 for 35% from the field, 6/17 for 35% from 3-point land and 6/8 for 75% from the charity stripe.

Next up for the Carrington Boys will be this Saturday against Velva in Carrington.  Pregame can be heard around 6pm on AM 1600 KDAK.

GIRLS BASKETBALL:  CARRINGTON 82  NORTH STAR 74 2OT

In the second meeting of these two region four teams, Carrington pulled out another victory in a thriller, 82-74 in two overtimes.  The first time these two teams met was in the semi-finals of the Lake Region Tourney, Carrington won by one point in that game to move on to the championship against Lakota/Adams-Edmore and later become the tourney champs.  Carrington improves to 9-4 overall, North Star drops to 9-4 overall. 

All five of the Cardinal starters were in double figures, Sr. Nikki Braaten had 19 followed by Josey Page with 18 including three 3-pointers, Kayla Hochhalter had 16, Hannah Lipetzky with 12 and Breana Barton with 11.  The Cards led 35-31 at halftime, North Star tied it at 66 apiece at the end of regulation.

Carrington made 32 field goals, 12/21 for 57% from the charity stripe and both teams combined for 51 turnovers, Carrington with 24.

Megan Gowan of North Star led all scorers with 20.

Next up for the girls will be this Thursday in Carrington against district seven foe Midkota, pregame can be heard around 7p on AM 1600 KDAK. 

REGION 2 WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP: 

No. 2 CARRINGTON 33     No. 1 CENTRAL CASS 30

The Card wrestlers were also in action on Saturday at May-Port CG High School for the Class B Region Two wrestling team dual championships.  Carrington beat the number one seeded Squirrels of Central Cass 33-30, both teams qualify for the state tourney in Fargo (Feb. 14, 15 & 16). 

Carrington beat the number seven seed May-Port CG and number three seed Pembina Cty. N to advance to the championship. 

Next up for the Card wrestlers will be this Saturday in Walhalla for the Regional Individual Tourney.  Carrington coverage can be heard on AM 1600 KDAK in Carrington starting at 10a and running all day.
