CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Vikings and Jimmies battled to split Wednesday night at the W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse in front of a loud and rowdy crowd.
The Valley City State men won 69-64, and the Jamestown College women took home an 81-64 victory in the rivalry matchup.
Valley City’s men took an 8-7 lead early in the game and did not trail the rest of the game. Jamestown was down by as many as 14 in the second half, but cut it to 65-61 with about 2 minutes remaining before John Raquel sealed it for the Vikings.
The Vikings were led by 17 from Sekani Milligen, 13 from Aaron Duske and 12 from Raquel. Davon Thomas scored 19 for Jamestown and Mark Hoge added 17.
The No. 22-ranked Vikings improve to 18-5. Jamestown College drops to 11-14.
On the women’s side, Jamestown jumped on top early, using a 19-4 first-half run to build a 25-point halftime lead.
The Vikings fought back to within 19 midway through the second half, but were never able to make a serious threat. Jamestown shot 64 percent in the first half, and were led by 17 points from Hannah Steele and 14 from Bridget Schuneman.
Brittany Lehner scored 17 and Alyssa Hummel had 14 for VCSU.
The No. 15-ranked Jimmie women improve to 20-4. The No. 24-ranked Vikings drop to 18-5.
Up next: The Vikings are on the road Saturday for a doubleheader at Mayville State. Jamestown College is also on the road Saturday at Dakota State.
