CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Carl Martineck was selected to be the next Barnes County Assistant State’s Attorney. He replaces Brad Cruff who was elected to a Southeast District Judgeship last November. Martineck has a law practice in Valley City. He said the transition from being a defense attorney to a prosecutor will be interesting.
Martineck is a native of Ohio who graduated from a Colorado law school in 2009. His wife Amy is a native of Valley City and they have a 7 year-old daughter.
Martineck said there may be opportunities for attorney’s to set up a law practice in Valley City as some attorney’s are closing in on retirement.
Several weeks ago, Stutsman County Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Heitkamp accepted the position in Barnes County but backed out due to other commitments.
