CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown College’s Nikki Iverson and Valley City State University’s Sekani Milligen have earned top honors in the Association of Independent Institutions this week as Iverson has been named Female Athlete of the Week, while Milligen has been named the Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 21-27.

Iverson, a junior from Jamestown, N.D., captured the pentathlon at the Cobber Pentathlon event on Friday with an NAIA qualifying mark of 2,762 points. A competitor must score 2,700 points to make the NAIA indoor pentathlon. She won the long jump (15-11 1/2) and the 800 meters (2:36.37) to win the five-event track specialty. She also finished third in the 60-meter hurdles and the shot put and was fourth in the high jump. She came back on Saturday to place fifth in the triple jump (34-9) at the Cobber Open.

Milligen, a 6-foot-4 senior guard from Fort Lauderdale, FL, averaged 25.5 points a game in wins over Dakota State and Oglala Lakota College. He hit 10 of 20 shots from beyond the 3-point arc and was 17-of-31 from the field. He grabbed eight rebounds and had two assists and one steal.
