CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It’s back to the drawing board for Valley City officials concerning the sale of the historic city auditorium that’s in the flood way.
Last October City Administrator David Schelkoph announced that an interested party would purchase the building.
City Commissioner Duane Magnuson said it’s silly not to sell the building to an interested developer who would renovate the structure.
Under a Federal Emergency Management Agency rule the owner can invest only 50% of the value of the structure for renovation improvements if it’s in the floodway. But, City Commissioner Matt Pederson said there may be a way to reduce the floodway and sell the building in the future.
Bob Bergen spokesman for Berkle properties told KOVC radio news that the company planned to renovate the structure into rental properties.
Earlier this month a Vanguard commercial property appraiser said the city auditorium built in 1936 is worth an estimated $180,000 dollars.
