M. Johnson, age 103, of Fullerton ND, went to be with our Lord, January 20, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society of Oakes ND.

Della Matilda Johnson, born October 31, 1909, daughter of George and Susanna Johnson, Swedish immigrants and pioneers, of Fullerton ND. Della grew up on the family farm with 12 brothers and sisters. She attended Algrove School #2 (formerly Rosebud) and graduated from Oakes High School in 1926. She received her degree in elementary education from the State Normal and Industrial College, Ellendale ND (UND Branch) in 1961. She taught school for 34 years in North Dakota, Idaho and Minnesota, before retiring to the family home in Fullerton, ND. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary for over 70 years. She attended the Lutheran church in Fullerton and later in Oakes. Della loved crossword puzzles, Scrabble, crafts, reading many newspapers, tracking family history and visiting with family and friends. Teaching for many years allowed Della to know families for many generations, remembering them by name and always asking about them. Della lived independently until her mid 90’s, when she moved to the Good Samaritan Society of Oakes.

She was honored to be Grand Marshall in both Oakes 125th celebration parade in 2011 and Fullerton’s 125th celebration, July 2012. Della will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, for her love shown and her ability to tie the historical past to the future.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Good Samaritan Society. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
