CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Guiding “Valley Recycling” in the right direction is the goal of Valley City officials as the business works through a volatile card board market.

When card board prices went south co-owner Marcia Faul told the city future operating expenses may cause the business to fail.

Earlier this month City Administrator David Schelkoph explains why more pick up bin sites in Valley City may help all parties involved.

In October, Faul suggested raising a city collection fee to help offset recycling operating costs when prices are low. Mayor Bob Werkhoven didn’t like that idea.

City Commissioner Duane Magnuson said the city should lend a hand to the business not a hand out.

City commissioner’s Matt Pederson and Madeline Luke said the recycling business is important to Valley City and all options should be explored to keep the business afloat.

The city commission approved of a $25,000 lease agreement with Valley Recycling to use an old garbage truck for the business.
