CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It’s like ball juggling making sure the pieces for the I-94 Development Corridor project in Valley City are in place. Local Economic Development director Jennifer Feist is referring to the John Deere plant expansion and construction of a new National Guard facility.

She said tax increment financing is important to make the plan work and having an eye on property tax proposals during the legislative session.

Valley Development Corporation member George Gaukler said John Deere Seeding Group is instrumental.

Local plant CEO David Bradford said with this expansion the company is committed to the community.

Construction on a $20 million dollar John Deere plant expansion will start in 2014 north of the existing facility. The factory makes air seeders and tillage equipment and has about 325 employees. Company officials say 50 to 100 new jobs are expected to be hired with this expansion.

Meanwhile 77 acres of land east of the John Deere plant will be used for construction of new National Guard facility buildings.

A public hearing to consider annexation of the I-94 Regional Development Corridor plan by the Valley City Barnes County Development Corporation will be held Tuesday, January 22 during the 5pm regular city commission meeting.
