Bushby, 56, of Hecla, SD, passed away on January 19, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes, ND.
Derwin Dale Bushby was born on September 15, 1956 at Ellendale, North Dakota ,where he lived and attended elementary school through the 5th grade. After his mother, Ann (Geffre) Schimke, married Roy Bushby of Hecla, South Dakota in 1967, Derwin attended school at Hecla and graduated in 1974. Derwin signed out of class whenever he could because he liked sitting in tractor cabs more than study halls. If there wasn’t any farm equipment around to drive, there was always a snowmobile, motorcycle, or pickup handy.
Derwin married Lisa Renz of Hecla and together they had a daughter, Jodi. After their divorce, he worked with a construction company in California and an oil rigger in Oklahoma. Derwin returned to Hecla to farm and ranch with his father, Roy and brother, Randy. They raised soy and edible beans, corn, alfalfa, other small grains, and cattle. Every season was full: feeding cattle in the winter, planting and calving in the spring, running irrigation systems and putting up hay in the summer, and harvesting in the fall – full days and full years. When the family quit farming in 1998, Derwin started working for Full Circle Ag and continued there until 2011.
In 1987, Derwin married Darcy Treeby of Hecla. They lived a couple of miles North of Hecla and had two sons, Brady and Bryce. Darcy passed away on December 5, 2004.
He is survived by his children, Jodi (Kelly) Hebl, Grand Forks, ND, Brady Bushby and Bryce Bushby, both of Hecla, SD; four brothers, Dennis Schimke, Kulm, ND, Jesse Schimke, Reno, NV, Randy (Kelly) Bushby, Aberdeen, SD, and Perry Bushby, Rapid City, SD; his father, Roy Bushby, Aberdeen, SD; and four grandchildren: Rally, Shannel, Autumn, and Isla Hebl. Derwin was preceded in death by his wife, Darcy, mother, Ann, biological father, Reuben Schimke, and a grandson, Cannon Hebl.
