Barbara Jean Brand passed away at home on January 18th, 2013 surrounded by family, friends, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

     Barb was born on June 19th, 1952 in Valley City, ND to Arlene and Douglas Larson. She grew up and attended school in Valley City. She graduated from Valley City High School in 1970 and from Valley City State University in 1974 with a degree in Education. After college she had various different jobs. One of which was a teaching job in Bird Island, MN where she met her husband Michael Brand. Barb and Mike were married on December 27, 1975. Together they made their home in Valley City, ND and had two children.

     Barb was involved in many activities, but was especially fond of her homemakers group and the Lion’s Club. She formed many special friendships and touched the lives of everyone she met. Barb never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She was known for her love of hallmark ornaments and sending cards to those she loved. The highlight of her life was the birth and time spent with her two grandchildren.

     She is survived by her husband of 37 years; Michael, West Fargo, ND; son, Matthew (Casey) Brand, Moorhead, MN; daughter, Andrea (Wade) Haugen, Grafton, ND; two very special grandchildren, Grady Haugen and Zoey Brand; parents, Douglas and Arlene Larson, Valley City, ND; siblings, Linda (Richard) Klein, Grand Forks, ND; Cindy (Kenny) DeWitt, Embden, ND; Alan (Janie) Larson, Valley City, ND; and Nancy (Dana) Noot, Marion, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

     Barb’s family would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, cards, and well wishes that have poured in the last 2 ½ years of her battle with cancer.

     Celebration of Life Gathering: Wednesday, January 23rd from 5-7 pm with a Prayer Service at 7 pm at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND

     Memorial Service: Thursday, January 24th at 11 am at Faith Lutheran Church, Valley City, ND

     In lieu of flowers family prefers memorials in honor of Barb to Roger Maris Cancer Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and Faith Lutheran Church – Valley City, ND.
