(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School basketball teams headed to Edgeley on Tuesday and came up with a split in their doubleheader against Edgeley-Kulm/Montpelier.
Girls: Oakes 50 EKM 38
The girls of Oakes came out firing in the first three quarters; taking an 18-6 lead after one quarter, and going to the fourth with a 35-17 advantage. EKM broke 20 points with a little less than five minutes remaining in regulation; but got hot, as they outscored the Tornadoes 21 to 15 in the final eight minutes.
Oakes (3-4) was lead by Nicole Warren with 13 points, Sidney Breitbach had 12. EKM (1-9) had 12 points courtesy of four second half threes from Kelsey Feist. Olivia Anderson had 10.
Boys: EKM 67 Oakes 49
In the boys game, it was a very close contest all the way through the first half which finished with a 30-30 tie. However, in the third quarter, the Rebels pulled away on a 17-9 run and never looked back.
EKM (9-3) had three players in double figures; Conner Entzi had 23, Logan Hanson had 19 and Noah Greer had 11. Oakes (3-8) was lead by Ethan Zetocha with a career high 22 points and Carter Zetocha scored eight in his first career start.
Each Oakes team plays at home on Thursday night at the same time. The boys will host Sargent Central, and the girls will welcome Hankinson. KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com will have coverage of the boys game starting around 7:15 p.m.
