CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City High School wrestling team suffered its second straight close loss in an EDC wrestling dual Tuesday night at Fargo South.
South came out on top in the dual by a score of 40-33. It follows a 34-33 loss last week for the Hi-Liners against Wahpeton. Valley City drops to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in EDC duals. South improves to 2-4 in the EDC.
The Hi-Liners are back in action this weekend at the Lisbon Storhaug Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Lisbon. On Tuesday, Valley City will have their final home dual of the year against Grand Forks Red River (4-1 EDC). That dual was rescheduled for Jan. 22 after being postponed by last week’s winter storm.
The Farmers Union Insurance Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 7-13 is Logan Erlandson. Erlandson, just a seventh grader, had a big varsity come-from-behind win Jan. 8 vs. Wahpeton. Erlandson, wrestling at 113 pounds, hit a headlock in the third period for five points to earn a hard fought 10-5 decision. He also finished third place at the North Dakota state Junior High tournament held in Minot. Erlandson wrestled in the 105 pound weight class and finished with a 5-1 record. His only loss was a 2-0 setback against the eventual champion.
