CITY (NewsDakota.com) – The top three seeds rolled to easy victories Tuesday during the first round of the Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament.
Valley City, Maple Valley and Enderlin all won their games by 30 or more points, and No. 5 seed Sargent Central came away with a 46-38 victory over No. 4 LaMoure-Litchville-Marion in the only close game of the day.
Friday’s semifinals feature top seed Valley City against Sargent Central at 6 p.m., and defending champion Maple Valley against Enderlin at 7:30 p.m.
Consolation semifinals will match Barnes County North and LaMoure-Litchville-Marion at 3 p.m., and Griggs County Central against Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page at 4:30 p.m.
Top seed Valley City got 15 points each from Jessica Denholm and Dierra Diegel as they rolled over Barnes County North 62-22 in the first game.
Hannah Schlecht led a balanced Sargent Central attack as they pulled away in the second half of their eight-point victory over LaMoure.
Rylee Nudell scored 24 points for Maple Valley, which handled Griggs County Central 61-28.
And in the day’s final game, Enderlin’s Megan Johnson and Krista Thielges combined for 41 points in a 69-39 win over Finley-Sharon/Hope Page.
Thielges knocked down four 3’s, and Johnson had 10 rebounds and nine assists, finishing one assist shy of a triple-double.
Friday’s radio coverage begins at 2:30 p.m. on Q101.1. Saturday’s game will start at noon with pregame coverage at 11:30 a.m. The championship game is set to tip about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
