Arleen Schlaht, 89, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Cleveland, ND, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.

     Arleen was born on the family farm south of Cleveland, ND on July 9, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Phillips) Thornton. She grew up on the family farm and attended Thornton country school. Arleen married Rueben Schlaht on September 9, 1945 at Rev. N.E. McCoy’s residence in Jamestown. They made their home on a farm a mile away from their parents’ where they raised grain and milked cows for many years.

     Arleen was a member of the Cleveland United Methodist Church, 4-H, Wild Rose Homemakers club for 55 years, and Hart-McClung Ladies Auxiliary.

     She was a great cook and enjoyed tending to her flower beds, crocheting, embroidering, and family gatherings.

     Arleen is survived by her children, Larry (Marty) Schlaht, Woodland, CA, Karen Micek, Douglassville, PA, Dean (Cindy) Schlaht, Cleveland, Gail (Bob) Gulkin, Jamestown, Dennis (Susan) Schlaht, Lexington, NC, and Lillian (Don) Hofmann, Medina, ND; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one brother, Floyd (Betty) Thornton.

     Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

     Visitation: One hour before the funeral at the funeral home.

     Interment: Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, ND at a later date.
